Welcome
to Finantium, Independent Chartered Financial Planners and independent financial
advisers.
We tell you the TRUTH ABOUT MONEY - your money, which is probably something you may
not have heard before. Knowing the truth will help you plan in a way that you did
not think was available - and it isn’t from most financial services firms.
If you want to know more about what a Chartered Financial Planner is, then follow
the link; this gives you some of the technical requirements.
What does a financial planner do? Well, you are probably familiar with what a financial
adviser does, aren’t you? He gives financial advice, doesn’t he?
Well, no, he doesn’t, not usually, not advice, not generally. He will usually tell
you what products you need to have and to buy, preferably from him/her.
And really, the products are the least important part of the true financial planning
process. In the financial planning process, products come last. What is the point
of buying products, willy nilly, if you don’t really know exactly why you need them.
Yes, you know generally why you need them: protection for your family, pensions for
your retirement etc, but exactly how much do you need and more to the point WHY?
Buying ‘product’ solutions in this way usually results in ‘Fractured Financial Planning’.
The real financial planner first start out with the WHY? This is no easy task, and
most financial advisers are not trained or equipped to ask the Why? question. OK,
it’s a lot more complex than that, and I’m not going to give it all away here, because
I have a living to make. Yes there is a fee involved, as you would expect.
An aside: If you want good unbiased advice you should expect to pay for it. If
advice is ‘free’ then you will be paying (indirectly) for products that pay commission
and that you may not really want or need and that the adviser will do his best to
try and sell to you. (Of course, you may need them, but you won’t know for certain.)
If you think you can get unbiased advice from a bank have a look at this on our
main financial advice site.
Now you are going to say, hang on a moment, you’re a financial adviser as well, so
won’t you just be trying to sell me products.? And that’s a very good question.
But recall what I said earlier, the product part is, in a way, the least important
part of the financial planning process. And that’s the point.
Providing you with a financial plan is a three part process, each part of which is
distinct from the other, and each part needs to be paid for.
Now the first part of the process, as I’ve mentioned, is the Why? And the last part
is the implementation (researching and putting in place any identified products).
So what’s the middle part?
This is the resource planning part, this is identifying what you have at your disposal
that will help you get what you want, that you, with our help, identified in the
first part of the process. And more importantly, we will let you know if what you
want is possible.
Do you recall what we said at the start - We tell you the TRUTH ABOUT MONEY.
And if that truth is unpalatable, well you will have been forewarned, and that puts
you in a better position than you were before, doesn’t it?
But it doesn’t stop there. Oh no.
We will let you know what you have to do to get what you said you wanted in the first
part of the process. Now if you decide that what you need to do to get what you
want is too much effort, then either you didn’t really want what you said you did,
or you come to realise that what you wanted is really just wishful thinking.
OK, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, that’s a bit harsh. But isn’t
it better to know now, early on, that what you’ve set your heart on for the future
isn’t going to happen, rather than be disappointed later. The good news is ...
It need not happen like that. We have long term relationships with clients and
we will work with you over the years to help you get to that vision you had in the
first part of the process.
So once we’ve worked together to identify what you want and looked at the resources
available, then, and only then will we look at the implementation and the products
required. (For a brief description of a limited range of the types of products we
use see our other financial planning site.)
And here’s another difference - the ‘product’ may be a debt reduction strategy or
a savings strategy or an estate planning strategy or something else that does not
require a commission paying product. ( Of course we still expect you to pay us for
this part as well.)
With our process we can give you accurate answers to the big questions that matter
most to you and you can actually see what we are saying, why we are saying it and
how it will benefit you.
How do we do this? Because we invest in advanced systems and technology to serve
you better. With our system, its like stepping into a time bubble, and taking a look
at your future. And if you don’t like what you see, you will be given the power
to change it ... NOW! Before its too late.
